Recently we’ve been receiving a lot of messages inquiring about Kohske’s health and why it often influences the release of new GANGSTA. chapters. Older fans of Kohske’s are likely aware of her condition at this point, but newer fans may not be, so we wanted to mention it again. From our FAQ:
Kohske was diagnosed with a form of Idiopathic Eosinophilia after an extended period of sickness in 2012. Due to the severity and chronic nature of her illness, she is prone to being hospitalised.
This condition is rarely chronic, but in Kohske’s case it is, so it basically causes her body to attack itself on a regular basis. She is currently on a corticosteroid treatment and has regular hospital visits (in addition to those where she needs to be admitted). Kohske is open about her condition and frequently tweets about how she’s feeling. As with most things in her life, she does so with a sense of humor.
It’s important to keep in mind that due to these circumstances it’s difficult to know for sure if a new GANGSTA. chapter will be released in any given month (sometimes even in the few days before the sale date) unless Kohske or @Bunch mentions otherwise. It’s also important to keep in mind that Kohske is a
woman who doesn’t fuck around with responsibility. If anything but a frequently disabling illness were to possibly cause her to miss a deadline, she’d put her
tablet pen in her teeth and draw it all with her head if she had to. The only times GANGSTA. has taken breaks during its run were when
Kohske physically could not finish a manuscript in time. This month has been one of those months.
Luckily, the amount of official support she receives from H, Kamo Shyuhei, and @Bunch in general is amazing. It’s just one of the many factors that shows how successful she’s been, how respected she is, and how lucky we are as a community of fans to have a mangaka like Kohske behind our favorite series and characters. ❤
Thank you (ありがとう): Put your left hand palm-down in front of your chest. In a 90 degree angle, lightly touch the back of your left hand with the edge of your right hand, as if you’re doing a hand-chop. Then lift your right hand back up to your chin level.
Together (一緒): Hold both your index fingers out and then bring both hands together until the fingers meet in the center. It’s a multiple meaning word that can mean other things such as “agreement”.
