Rookies by Morita Masanori

#)8 #it always feels a little disingenuous #to talk about rookies as a classic sports manga #it’s told through sport #it’s about a sport #but really rookies is about teenage boys who aren’t equipped with the self worth #to navigate a world that’s decided they’re not worth trying to save #so they find themselves having fights and smoking and generally being nuisances #because they’ve trapped themselves in a world where that’s all they’ve really got #and it isn’t until koichi kawato slams in #and tells them they have to open their hands #before anyone will open a hand to them #that anything changes. #i really just love rookies lmfao #rookies #self worth issues // (via taiyomukai)

what she says: I’m fine.

what she means: If Big Windup was released after Free! it would have been much more popular. The original soundtrack, animation, and originality was ahead of it’s time. Free! drew in a huge fanbase that allowed other sports anime to gain popularity and prevail in the anime industry, however; Big Windup emerged in 2009 when Fantasy & Sci-fi were dominating the entire industry. If Ookiku Furikabutte, also known as Oofuri, was released after the swimming sports anime, it would have had a much larger fanbase thus significantly increasing the likelihood of having multiple seasons. Unfortunately, the animation studio A-1 produced this refreshing slice-of-life/Shounen/Comedy too early which resulted in its downfall. Will studio A-1 ever produce the third season? Have they truly given up on animating Higuchi Asa’s artwork?
